What is physical literacy?

Physical Literacy can be described as the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding that provides children with the movement foundation for lifelong participation in physical activity. Enabling them to be physically literate supports their development as competent, confident healthy movers. (Youth Sport Trust) 

What are the National Curriculum requirements?

A high quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to exceed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically comfident in a way that supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect. (DfE 2013)
